Rooted in Science. Guided by Curiosity and Care.
New Mexico Psychological & Behavioral Services was built on a commitment to providing the highest quality neurodevelopmental assessment and support. Our philosophy is that every individual’s differences are worth celebrating, not just managing.
Neurodiversity-Affirming Care, From the Ground Up
We believe that autism, intellectual disability, and other neurodevelopmental differences are natural variations in human experience — differences, not deficits. We also believe that getting an evaluation is less about labeling what’s wrong and more about getting to know a person more fully, so they (and the people who support them) can find their path. At the same time, we recognize that many neurodivergent individuals and their families face real, significant challenges that deserve real, skilled support.
"We’ll identify your differences and help you get to know them."
Our approach is built on three pillars:
- Celebrate individual strengths and discover what makes each person unique, because getting to know someone’s strengths is the foundation of everything that follows.
- Build independence and self-determination, because the goal of any intervention is to expand the individual’s ability to navigate their world on their own terms.
- Address significant behavioral needs with evidence-based tools — because some behaviors create safety risks or major barriers to quality of life, and that deserves skilled, compassionate intervention.

"My goal is to celebrate who each person is, build on their strengths, and help individuals and families find a clear path forward — whatever that looks like for them."
Evaluation and Support Across the Lifespan
One of the things that sets our practice apart is our commitment to serving individuals at every stage of life, from toddlers to adults. Neurodevelopmental differences don’t disappear at 18, and neither do we.
Children (Ages 2+)
Early evaluation and intervention planning for toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children with suspected or diagnosed neurodevelopmental differences. We use age-appropriate, child-friendly assessment tools and communicate findings clearly to families.
Teens & Adolescents
The teenage years bring unique challenges for neurodivergent youth. We support adolescents in understanding themselves, building self-advocacy skills, and preparing for adulthood — alongside the families and educators who support them.
Adults
Many adults grew up without a diagnosis — or simply without the language to understand themselves. Adults who come to us are often self-referred, seeking clarity about their own experiences. We provide thorough adult evaluations for autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, ADHD, and related conditions, giving individuals the understanding and documentation they need to move forward.
Families & Caregivers
Families are essential partners in care. We provide guidance, post-evaluation support, and resource connection to help caregivers navigate the service system, understand evaluation findings, and advocate effectively for their loved ones.
Why Families and Individuals Choose Us
Dual Expertise: Psychology + Behavior Analysis
Very few clinicians hold both a doctoral-level psychology license and BCBA-D certification. This combination means we can both diagnose and design behavioral support, without requiring referrals to multiple providers.
20+ Years of Specialized Experience
Dr. Martins has spent over two decades working in academia, pediatric behavioral health, and clinical practice exclusively focused on autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, and neurodevelopmental differences.
Lifespan Approach
Dr. Martins is a psychologist focused on neurodevelopmental differences across the full lifespan, not on any particular age group. Her clients range from age two through their sixties and beyond. Whether you’re a parent of a toddler or an adult seeking your first evaluation, you belong here.
School Consultation
We work directly with school teams to improve educational outcomes for students with autism and neurodevelopmental differences — a service few private practices offer.
Neurodiversity-Affirming Framework
Our approach is positive and celebratory. We use clinical terms because they open doors to services, insurance coverage, waivers, and accommodations. But more than anything, the language we bring to every evaluation is about understanding, discovering unique qualities, and helping people and families find their path forward.
